Indigenous Education

Indigenous Education Program - Bakerview

The goal of the Indigenous education program is to improve the success of Indigenous students; to support all students learning about Indigenous peoples and to help teachers in their efforts to infuse Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into the classroom.

The Bakerview Indigenous Education Program team is supported by the Abbotsford School District Indigenous Education Program team.

Indigenous students will be supported to develop their full potential in all aspects of school life. We are committing to Indigenous students seeing themselves in the school community through celebrating Indigenous themed days, having hands-on learning, Indigenous content in our courses and making the Indigenous room a central gathering spot in our school.

The Indigenous Education Program supports students to learn about their own Indigenous cultural identity and connect with their ancestry in a meaningful way. When indigenous students know their identity, who they are and where they have come from, they will develop a positive sense of self and belonging.

At BCL, indigenous students have access to the Indigenous room with the support of a Teacher for Indigenous Success and an Indigenous Support Worker. The Indigenous Education Program provides food and snacks, culturally relevant activities and place based learning opportunities. We are committed to mitigating attendance barriers by providing access to equitable transportation.
