Human & Social
Our students will study personal and human social skills and as they relate to students' identity in the world - both as individuals and as members of their community. We are learning that personal and human social skills encompass the abilities students needs to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world.
School is a place of learning, both academic and social. We strive to create a positive learning environment where each of our students feel safe and heard and connected to one another. Gleaners
As contributing members to our community, Bakerview students have the opportunity to volunteer at Gleaners in Abbotsford. All students are positive, work hard and have fun when chopping and peeling a variety of vegetables. They even have a great time on "onion" days! Every time a student volunteers, they make 150 soup servings. Our yearly goal is to make 50,000 soup servings by June.
Reading Buddies
Our Bakerview students have the opportunity to be leaders in our school district as Reading Buddies for their elementary school counterparts. Students take their responsibilities as a role model seriously and it is amazing to see our BCL students in a leadership position. Our students are so caring and patient with their little buddies and it is such a positive experience for all as our BCL Buddies have such enthusiasm when they read to their buddies.
Elders Lunch
Learning from our Elders is an important part of our school journey. Bakerview students host an Elder's lunch as a way to serve their community and create an opportunity to learn from the experience and knowledge of our Elders. Students are also responsible for being great hosts and created a delicious soup buffet and thank you gifts of dream catchers and Salish weaving beaded bracelets.
Foundry Ambassadors
All Bakerview programs have a balanced focus on academic success paired with mental health supports. We are proud to offer peer Foundry Ambassadors who are leaders in our school with experience accessing Foundry services or are passionate about advocating for mental health and wellness in their schools.
Graduation Celebrations
Bakerview celebrates graduation just like any other secondary school! We have a formal graduation ceremony where students cross the stage and celebrate with their loved ones. We also host a student only celebration where grads dress up for a formal dinner.
