October 2025

October 8, 2025

Good Morning Bakerview Families,

October's good weather has been a positive influence on the building, our students continue to work hard in class and be great citizens on campus! We were thrilled to, once again, be able to welcome all of our students with a Bakerview hoodie this year. We returned to our official blue and it was a hit! We love to see our BCL students wearing their hoodies on campus and around town.

Students of the Month
Congratulations to Kim Silver, our Student of the Month for September! Our students of the month are celebrated with a special SOM hoodie!

Attendance Draw Winners
Congratulations to our Attendance award winners for the month fo September, Xavier Loyie and Braydon Kowal! All students who attend 80% or higher are in the draw and our winners are celebrated with a gift card to Subway!

Cell Phone Usage During Instructional Time
We are noticing cell phones are a significant distraction during instructional time for some of our students.  Thank you for your support as we work to minimize distractions and help students stay focused on learning. We’ll be reminding students of this expectation and ask them to put their devices away during class time. We will reach out to families directly if cell phone use is directly impacting your student's achievement.

Photo Day
Photo Day is Oct 15th. Students are encouraged to get their photos done for the student ID (which is included in student fees so no additional cost to families). This School ID card can be used as a secondary Photo ID to obtain BC Service Card, Social Insurance Number and Birth certificate. It can also be used for student discounts.

Careers Update
This October we are offering Food Safe to all our new students with priority to those who are in our Foods classes. Food Safe will be offered again later in the year for anyone who missed it this round.
Seet, our Careers teacher, has worked hard to create a balanced schedule of certifications and trainings for this year. These trainings are available to all students at no cost and we encourage all interested students. Upcoming training sessions are posted in classrooms and outside the Student Services (Counselling) room. Our next certification is First Aid, offered Oct 29 and 30th.

Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is Monday Oct 13 and there are no classes in session that day. We will be hosting our annual student Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday Oct 9.

Upcoming Student Field Trips
Our Indigenous program is planning a field trip to XÁytem for our grade 9 and 10 students on the morning of Oct 16. Interested students can connect with their classroom team.
