May 2025

May 7, 2025

Good Morning Bakerview Families,

As 'NSYNC famously sings "It's Gonna be May." Time is moving quickly and we are starting to prepare for graduation and year end. While the weather forecasts sun and fun, it is important that all students continue to attend regularly and complete their coursework.

Congratulations to our Student of the Month for April Kaiden Pepping!

Parent Communication Survey

We’re inviting families to take part in a short Parent Communication Survey to share their experiences with school and district communications. Your input will help us better understand what’s working well and where there may be opportunities to strengthen connection and support. Thank you for taking a few minutes to share your thoughts with us! An email was sent home to all families. If you need a new link, please email bakerview@abbyschools.ca

School Program Planning for the 2025-26 School Year

Our annual class reviews are scheduled for May 23 and 26th. These are meeting with program teachers as we plan for student placements next year. Staff will reach out to parents and students if there are any new recommendations regarding program placement and graduation track planning. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your classroom team.

Indigenous Department Update

Our Indigenous calendar is full this month. We recognize and remember Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Girls and 2 Spirited People on May 5th, also known as Red Dress Day. We are proud that Bakerview student Angel has offered to share a presentation she developed to honour MMIWG2S with her peers this upcoming week.

A hiking field trip to Thunderbird Caves is scheduled for May 15, 2025 and our year end Indigenous Family Gathering takes place on Thursday May 29, 2025. More information will be sent home with students.

Careers Department Update

April was our Resume Blitz Month- 108  students created or updated their resumes. We are celebrating as a school with samosas on May 6. Congratulations to our draw prize winners Eliyah, Jordyn, Angel, Ryan, Amber and Kiryian!

This month, our Careers Department is hosting a presentation by Work Safe BC regarding Young Workers Rights and WHIMIS (May 8), Eyelash Tech Certification (May 13-15), and Forklift Training (May 21-22).
