Grad Ceremony 2021

Convocation 2021

RE: Update on 2021 Convocation Process

The health and safety of our students, staff, and families continue to be our priority as we plan for the Bakerview Centre for Learning Graduating Class of 2021. After consultation with our district health team, we have planned a drive-up event that will honour our students with the support of their 2 family representatives (guests). This event will respect physical distancing guidelines, allow for each grad to be celebrated in person, and provide a live stream that other family and friends can enjoy from the safety of their homes, near or far.

While we cannot host our traditional graduation ceremony, our plan allows our graduates to walk the red carpet upon arrival at Bakerview with two adult representatives present on June 23, 2021. This unique opportunity of 2 guests provides a powerful experience for both our graduates and their families to be together for a few moments to celebrate. This event is a complex undertaking that demonstrates our commitment to our graduates to ensure that they are recognized in the best way possible during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bakerview Centre for Learning's 2021 Convocation will take place at Bakerview Centre for Learning at 32622 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, BC V2T 4A2.

  • Graduates will receive an email the week of June 7th with a specific time slot to report to the school on for June 23, 2021.
  • Graduates must arrive in their vehicle with their two guests at their scheduled time.
  • Graduates will arrive and be able to exit their vehicle, then walk the red carpet to collect their graduation items, one of the two guests can then move the grad tassel to indicate they’ve graduated and then the grad can proceed to get their graduation photo.

2021 Convocation Process – June 23, 10am – 230pm

 A: Arrival

Arrival at school/lining up

All grads, family, staff MUST be masked, physically distanced. There will also be hand sanitizer at the beginning and end of the ceremony table.
Entry to the property will be controlled to respect the provincial health officer’s guidelines for public gatherings.

As such, graduates and guests will arrive at the school in ONE CAR via EAST driveway entrance (closest to hospital).
BCL staff will be at entrance to greet the vehicle, collect mandatory and completed Daily Health Assessments (DHA’s) and direct traffic and parking.
Once in the school parking lot, please remain in your vehicle until you are directed to exit.

Graduates should arrive already dressed in their cap and gown (which will be distributed in June.) Grads or caregivers will not be permitted to carry any items to the grad staging area.
All BCL staff will wear masks and be physically distant on the outskirts of the property, staging area and parking lot to guide traffic and to ensure students and their families are following provincial health guidelines.
Graduates and their two family representatives will proceed in their vehicle to the front of the school via parking lot.

Grads with their two family representatives will exit the vehicle and approach the stage when directed to do so.

B: Crossing the stage (red carpet)

Grads will approach the table with their two family members.
The graduate will walk across the red carpet as a staff member reads aloud their name, and announcing any scholarship, bursaries, or awards the student has received.
After their graduate crosses the red carpet, they will collect their diploma, gifts, any Indigenous items, Indigenous awards, awards and a thank you rose.
Finally, a family representative will move their graduate’s tassel to signify they have graduated.

C: Leaving the Stage/Exiting

Leaving the premise / Exiting

Immediately following the tassel crossover, the graduate will have their photograph taken by Vibrant Photos.
Then the graduate and their guests will return to their vehicle and leave on out of the west parking lot exit onto Marshall Road – It is a right turn ONLY. Under no circumstances will there be any gathering or congregations of any kind.
From a distance staff will cheer vehicles with grads and guests as they leave campus.

Live Streaming, Photography and Graduation Celebration Video

The entire event will be live-streamed on June 23, 2021 so your family and friends from near and far can watch you walk the red carpet and have your name read. The entire ceremony will also be available to watch online. That link will be posted on our website during and after the event.

Next Steps

We are waiting for student cap and gown packages to arrive. That package will have an important checklist attached so please ensure you go through that with your teacher. Your teacher will distribute the cap and gowns. Cap and gowns will be ready for pick up June 16th – June 22nd, 2021.

Please note all fees must be paid and borrowed chromebooks returned prior to cap and gown pick up.

Grad photo proofs have arrived and are ready for pick up, if you haven’t received them already. If you had grad photos taken on May 3, 4, 5, 2021 contact the main office for a time to pick up your grad photo proofs.
